Clancey Family History
Recorded as MacClancy, O'Clancy, Clancy and Clancey, this is a famous Irish clan surname. It is said that the original chief in the 12th century or thereabouts had a reputation for being in the thick of the fighting, and perhaps it is not surprising that one of the translations of the surname is 'the son of the red warrior' from the gaelic 'Mac Fhlannchaidh'. Certainly there has hardly been a time in Irish history when a member of the clan has not been closely involved. There are two main septs, the most important being centred on County Clare, and the village of Cahermacclancy, and to some extent the surrounding counties of Galway and Tipperary, whilst a smaller group can be found in County Leitrim.Select Audience

EMMA
The name I am looking for is Thomas Glancey (possibly Clancy) born around 1839 to 1841 in Ireland. My mom's mother was Mary Glancey and her father was Thomas Glancey born in Philadelphia, PA. His father is the one who came from Ireland. My mom's DNA said she is from North Mayo, North East Mayo or North Connacht. My mom's father is a McDonald and we can trace him back to Scotland, so I believe my mom's DNA is reflecting the Glancey side of our family. Thomas Glancey lived in Phila PA and died here in 1876. In 1879 his wife Anna Bridget (Welsh/Walsh born in Ireland about 1843) Glancey died leaving behind 6 orphan kids in this order: Mary, William, Thomas, John, Joseph and Johanna. Thomas was Roman Catholic. Any information is appreciated.
